Jon Rubenstein Named New Coach of Yeshiva University Tennis

Yeshiva University Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Jon Rubinstein as head men’s tennis coach. Rubinstein inherits a program that made uUniversity history last spring when it became the first Yeshiva UniversiAty athletics program to earn an automatic qualifier into an NCAA Division III championship.

Rubinstein brings a wealth of successful tennis experience to Yeshiva. He served as a 13-year assistant coach at nationally prominent Drew University. While there, he helped the Rangers to 13 consecutive championships on the men’s side and three conference championships on the women’s side.

“I am so excited to be a part of Yeshiva University and the men’s tennis team,” said Rubinstein. “I am really looking forward to the opportunity to be a head coach and to bring my enthusiasm and knowledge of tennis to young men so that we can work together to establish our own history of success and make the players’ years at Yeshiva memorable ones.”

Prior to his successful run at Drew, Rubinstein served as assistant coach of the men’s and women’s tennis teams at the University of Delaware in 1997. Rubinstein’s other coaching experience includes the varsity boy’s tennis coach at Solomon Schechter of West Orange from 2001-02; girl’s junior varsity coach at Ramapo High School, and boy’s junior varsity tennis coach at Old Tappan High School in 1997.

”Jon is going to be a great fit for both the team and the department. He’s a winning coach with an academic background which is exactly what we look for,” said Yeshiva University Director of Athletics, Joe Bednarsh. “I am confident that Jon will immediately put his stamp on this program and get the team ready to defend their Skyline Conference title.”

A Wyckoff, N.J. native, Rubinstein’s playing experience includes the Pan Am Maccabi Games in Santiago, Chile in 2003, where he was a bronze medalist in mixed doubles, and a national finalist in the USTA men’s 40 plus team in 2013.
