Livingston–The Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy, New Jersey’s only Modern Orthodox Jewish day school accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent School (NJAIS), hosted an Open House and Family Fun Day for prospective and current JKHA families on Sunday, December 14. Close to 500 people attended the first-of-its kind event that featured a fun-filled Chanukah-themed morning, along with opportunities to explore the first-rate Judaic and general studies education the school provides.
The morning kicked off with food packaging for those in need with the Jewish Relief Agency (JRA), student Chanukah vocal performances, and an interactive music program with Musical IQ’s Drum Tales. Parents were able to attend sessions with their children that explored hands-on Chanukah related science experiments, multisensory Hebrew games, and aleph bet yoga and other activities in the school’s movement room. Children also exerted their energy participating in “Judah and the Maccabbes Training” in the gym, and explored their creative sides while making Chanukah-themed crafts.
Parents were able to attend sessions with the school’s faculty that included more in-depth learning about the Lower School general studies curriculum from early childhood to transitioning to the Middle School, the way in which the school imbues Torah values throughout its curriculum, as well as information on new programs for community growth incentives and affordability.
The day culminated with lunch, which featured a Community Fair with representation from area shuls, and resources and information for families looking to relocate to the area. Raffle prizes were also awarded to current and prospective families, and one lucky prospective family went home with a $5,000 credit towards tuition.
“This Chanukah, JKHA wanted to do something different and make open house informational for prospective parents, and an enjoyable event for the whole family and our school community,” said Sandra Blank, Director of Admissions of JKHA. “It was a great opportunity for prospective families to explore what our school has to offer and learn about the surrounding communities, as well as a chance for our school families to come together for a day of enriching family fun and entertainment.”
