JV Lady Sting Start the Season Off With Two Big Wins

In the first game since a championship victory last year, the JV Lady Sting basketball team took on a Frisch team with strong aspirations for this season. The game started off slowly as it looked like it would be a defensive battle. Sophomore Helena Dweck supplied the offense in the 1st quarter with 5 points as the quarter ended with a 5-0 SAR lead. The offense picked up a bit in the 2nd quarter as SAR headed into halftime with a 12-6 lead.

SAR scored 18 points in the 3rd quarter to break the game open: led by Sophie Hecht who finished the game with a team high 11 points, and Rebecca Hyman who finished the game with 10 points including a buzzer beater to end the 3rd quarter. Going into the 4th quarter with a 20- point lead, Frisch’s Sarah Lieberman nailed back-to-back jump shots cutting into SAR’s lead. Unfortunately for Frisch, it was a case of too little too late as SAR got the home opener victory by a score of 34-24.

Last Sunday the Lady Sting was back at it defeating Kushner, 41-19. The momentum from the 4th quarter of the Frisch game carried over to start this game as the team scored 16 1st quarter points. SAR continued its strong play as it took a 25-9 lead at the half. Coach Leslie Spalding took out the starters mid-way through the 3rd to ensure that every member of the team got to play in the victory. Rebecca Hyman led the team with 11 points, Sophie Hecht added 8 points, and Eva Ingber dropped 6.
