JV Thunder Edge Sting in Big Game

In what could be seen as their first big test of the season, the junior varsity Thunder never trailed in the game. Opening the scoring early was All-Star sophomore Elisha Schmutter. Although SAR managed to tie it up a few minutes later, it was sophomore surprise Shmuel Weinberger who managed to score again for the JV Thunder, achieving a lead which they would carry into the second period.

The 2nd brought a tight defensive game that showcased outstanding and timely goal-tending by sophomore Alec Seidman, which, when paired with solid puck movement and the strong defense play of sophomore tandem Netanel Kramer and Yitzy Hershkowitz, allowed the JV thunder to kill off an SAR power play and keep the score close. Perhaps the only defensive flaw of the period occurred midway through, when SAR managed to score from the point, tying the game at 2.

It was clear that the final 12 minutes would decide the game and the JV Thunder wasted little time taking back the previously squandered lead. With three more goals by Elisha Schmutter, including a last minute penalty shot goal, and a late period tally by freshman Sammy Simcha, the JV Thunder managed to close the game out with authority. Honorable mention should be given to sophomore Aryeh Marcus who, together with all-around solid play, picked up three timely helpers.
