(Courtesy of Kaplen JCC) “Lavish Lunches,” the annual culinary experience that supports a broad range of programs and services for senior adults at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, will take place on Thursday, March 12, 6-9 p.m., in a brand new “Evening Edition” format that will include a fun, progressive strolling dinner at three neighboring homes on Highwood Avenue in Tenafly. Funds raised at the event allow seniors to “age in place” and remain socially, mentally and physically connected to the world around them. Guests will start the night right with cocktails and appetizers at the first house, a lavish dinner and entertainment at the second and sweet treats and fun desserts at the third. The JCC will then host its Mitzvah Lunch with seniors at the JCC the following Thursday, March 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing everyone who attends with a rare opportunity to glimpse firsthand the joy the JCC brings into the lives of seniors every day.
“Lavish Lunches” embodies an important JCC mission, which is to provide support for seniors in our community, many of whom would otherwise be homebound. The JCC Senior Services Department delivers a broad range of social, cultural, educational and recreational programs for older adults and their caregivers. Highlights include the Kaplen Adult Reach Center, a social adult day care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia; REAP, which offers extensive programming for active retirees; The Club, a social group for individuals with mild cognitive impairment; a Senior Activity Center; and intergenerational programs with children in the JCC Leonard and Syril Rubin Early Childhood Center and Neil Klatskin Summer Camps.
