The day before Passover break, Kinneret Day School’s grades five to eight participated in Monday Funday. The day began with Rabbi Michael Billet making a siyum on maschet Nazir. Nazir is a Gemara tractate in Seder Nashim that is part of the larger study of Daf Yomi. Everyone then enjoyed a small feast of cookies and donuts. The day gave students the opportunity to build school spirit and focus on the social and emotional skills necessary for success. They had the chance to play Pictionary, enjoy a teacher-created trivia game reviewing key ideas from Hebrew language and Judaic Studies, play educational board games that honed strategic thinking and turn-taking—and the crowning jewel was an escape room. The escape room trapped the students in ancient Egypt, and by answering Passover-themed questions, they could escape to freedom! All of the middle school teachers pitched in to run the activities and shepherd the students to each attraction. Rabbi Billet created the escape room, and Hanita Hayim created the trivia game. These games contributed to the fun, but educational atmosphere. Students were engaged and enjoyed themselves fully and it was an exciting way to start their spring break.
