Kerem B’Yavneh Dinner Honors Local Alumni

American Friends of Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh will celebrate its 44th Annual Din­ner on Monday evening, June 16, 2014 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, in Lower Manhattan. The yeshiva will pay trib­ute to three distinguished alumni who have achieved eminence in their professions. The featured speaker will be Rav Mendel Blach­man. Rabbi Ari and Michal Zahtz, who will re­ceive the Rabbinic Alumnus Award, serve as Assistant Rabbi and Rebbetzin of Congrega­tion Bnai Yeshurun.

Rabbi Zahtz is Mashgiach Ruchani at Yeshi­va University and a faculty member for the Ye­shiva Masmidim Honors program at YU. Rab­bi Zahtz studied at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh for two years, earned his BA from Yeshiva Col­lege and subsequently his Smicha from RIETS. He recently received Yadin Yadin Semicha from RIETS.

Rebbetzin Michal Zahtz attended Michlala and Stern College. She has a Master’s in Phys­ical Therapy from SUNY Downstate and is in­volved in running I-shine Teaneck, a Chai Life­line after-school program, which they founded with others.

Simcha and Elisheva Goldstein will receive the Ambassadors of Torah Award. Simcha at­tended Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh for two years and then went to YU to earn his BS in market­ing. He is currently a Senior Vice President at Meridian Capital Group. His wife, Elisheva, at­tended Michlala and Stern, earning a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. Elishe­va and Simcha live in Bergenfield and are ac­tive members in the Bais Medrash of Bergen­field.

DJ and Chaviva Alter will receive the Young Alumnus Award. DJ, attended Kerem B’Yavneh in 2006 before returning to Yeshiva University. At YU, DJ earned a degree in accounting and then a Master’s Degree in Taxation at Baruch College. DJ he has been working in the tax as­set management group at Pricewaterhouse­Coopers. This coming fall, DJ will be attending Fordham Law while continuing to work.

Chaviva graduated from Touro College with a degree in psychology and then received a Master’s in Special Ed. For the last two years she has been working at Sinai Schools in Riv­er Edge with first to third grade special needs children.
