American Friends of Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh will celebrate its 44th Annual Dinner on Monday evening, June 16, 2014 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, in Lower Manhattan. The yeshiva will pay tribute to three distinguished alumni who have achieved eminence in their professions. The featured speaker will be Rav Mendel Blachman. Rabbi Ari and Michal Zahtz, who will receive the Rabbinic Alumnus Award, serve as Assistant Rabbi and Rebbetzin of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun.
Rabbi Zahtz is Mashgiach Ruchani at Yeshiva University and a faculty member for the Yeshiva Masmidim Honors program at YU. Rabbi Zahtz studied at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh for two years, earned his BA from Yeshiva College and subsequently his Smicha from RIETS. He recently received Yadin Yadin Semicha from RIETS.
Rebbetzin Michal Zahtz attended Michlala and Stern College. She has a Master’s in Physical Therapy from SUNY Downstate and is involved in running I-shine Teaneck, a Chai Lifeline after-school program, which they founded with others.
Simcha and Elisheva Goldstein will receive the Ambassadors of Torah Award. Simcha attended Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh for two years and then went to YU to earn his BS in marketing. He is currently a Senior Vice President at Meridian Capital Group. His wife, Elisheva, attended Michlala and Stern, earning a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. Elisheva and Simcha live in Bergenfield and are active members in the Bais Medrash of Bergenfield.
DJ and Chaviva Alter will receive the Young Alumnus Award. DJ, attended Kerem B’Yavneh in 2006 before returning to Yeshiva University. At YU, DJ earned a degree in accounting and then a Master’s Degree in Taxation at Baruch College. DJ he has been working in the tax asset management group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. This coming fall, DJ will be attending Fordham Law while continuing to work.
Chaviva graduated from Touro College with a degree in psychology and then received a Master’s in Special Ed. For the last two years she has been working at Sinai Schools in River Edge with first to third grade special needs children.
