Knockers CBY A Division Repeat Champions

The Knockers are a proud softball team with a history that is older than some of its current squad. The Knockers got their start in the Bnei Brith Softball league 30 years ago, but several years ago brought their talent to the Bnei Yeshurun league. The team name is derived from the Yiddish word knockers, meaning big shots.

On Sunday the Knockers knocked off a very talented B Leaguered team 6-0, to maintain their title as CBY A division champions.

The Knockers road to the title was an interesting one, to say the least. During the regular season they posted a 10-game winning streak, finishing 11-3 and allowing the fewest runs in the league. With superb pitching from Yitz Greenbaum, who gave up only 8 runs in four playoff games versus some very high powered offenses and only allowed one run in two championship games and a perfect game through the first four innings of the final game, it looked like a Knocker win would be a foregone conclusion. And it was.

The Knockers had a balanced attack; stellar defense and significant contributions from every player on the roster. Everyone shined at the plate or in the field. Captain Josh Aaron told the JLBC, “It was a lot of fun to play with this group of guys. Really everyone contributed. The last few weeks we felt like we couldn’t lose (and we couldn’t unless we forfeited). Repeating as champions was awesome and hopefully we can make it three-in-a-row next year.”
