The yeladim of Kol Chaverim Preschool in Fair Lawn have been eagerly preparing for Chanukah. They have been reviewing counting all eight candles on the menorah and adding the helper shamash candle, which makes nine. Classes all made their own menorahs too, using their counting and patterning skills. They learned that a dreidel, or sevivon, has four sides, each with a special Hebrew letter. Some classes spent time graphing the spins on a dreidel while playing dreidel games. Students love to integrate critical thinking and math skills into fun holiday learning. The yeladim also used their fine motor skills to carefully place tissue paper onto sticky contact paper to make beautiful dreidel sun-catchers which are hanging in the classrooms. They can’t wait for the upcoming Chanukah party and specialty days.
