Koren Publishes Bilingual Mahzor

Koren Publishers Jerusalem announces publication of the Koren Yom Ha’Atzmaut Mahzor, the first-ever English-Hebrew prayer book for Israel’s national holidays. Published in collaboration with the World Mizrachi organization, the Koren Yom Ha’Atzmaut Mahzor is a double-ended volume that features complete services for Israel’s Independence Day and Jerusalem Day with a collection of essays by leading scholars in the world of Religious Zionism. The mahzor also includes a moving introduction by Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, translation by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, and new commentary by Rabbis Moshe Taragin and Rabbi Binyamin Lau that connects the centrality of Israel to the weekday liturgy.

The order of prayers in the Koren Yom Ha’Atzmaut Mahzor is based on the practices established by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Optional prayers such as Hallel and Al-HaNissim appear in shaded text with extensive notes that explain the halakhic debates surrounding their recitation.

The unique collection of essays explores the theological, philosophical, and halakhic implications of the modern State of Israel. Contributors include: R. Yehuda Amital(zt”l), Dr. Erica Brown, R. Zvi Yehuda Kook(zt”l), R. Binyamin Lau, R. Mosheh Lichtenstein, R. David Milston, R. Yitzhak Nissim(zt”l), R. Shlomo Riskin, R. Jonathan Sacks, R. Herschel Schachter, R. JJ Schacter, R. Joseph B. Soloveitchik(zt”l), R. Moshe Taragin, R. Berel Wein, Dr. Yael Ziegler, and more.

“The Koren Yom Ha’Atzmaut Mahzor is both an enhanced mahzor and an inspiring educational resource in one. Now all English-speaking Jewry will be able to enrich their connection to Israel emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually,” says Koren publisher Matthew Miller.

The Koren Yom Ha’Atmaut Mahzor is being released before Passover, the festival that celebrates redemption and the birth of the Jewish nation. “On Pesach and Shavuot, we celebrate our original, physical redemption and spiritual destiny in Biblical times. On Yom Ha’Atzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim, we celebrate these very same sentiments in modern times,” says Rav Doron Perez, Director-General of World Mizrachi. “We thank our donors for supporting this landmark publication.”
