A new convenience store has joined the kosher offerings in Teaneck. Grab & Go, located near TABC on State Street, is an affordable, all-kosher take on the 7-Eleven chain. In addition to offering coffee, sandwiches and pastries, they also have parfaits, fruit drinks and even some Israeli products for sale. The store has been serving customers since it first opened in July, and continues to promise quick and easy service moving into the coming weeks and months ahead.
The idea for Grab & Go has been in the works for a few years now. The owner had been looking in the area for a viable location and after finding the available spot was quick to claim it and start work on putting things together. Shalom Shushan is one of Grab & Go’s prime staff members along with the owner’s brother and has worked tirelessly to assist in the store’s opening.
“Everything in our store is kosher,” Shushan told The Jewish Link. “I think that’s really one of the best parts about [Grab & Go]. We actually had one woman come in who said to our cashier ‘Wow, it’s so great to be able to have a store like this where I don’t have to check everything to see if it’s kosher first.’ That’s what we wanted this store to be, and there’s nothing like it in Teaneck. Another great thing is that we don’t have just traditional products: we actually have a cappuccino machine; Icee machine, which is hard to find kosher; and some really great snacks you don’t usually see in the United States. In the future we’re also hoping to put in a hot pretzel machine.”
One of the special offerings of Grab & Go is the different products they offer. As a convenience store they carry the usual eggs, milk and toothpaste, but also Israeli chocolates, candy bars and chips. On Thursdays and Fridays they will also be selling flowers for those looking to bring a bouquet home for Shabbat.
“It’s grab and go,” Shushan shared. “You don’t have to wait around to order anything: you come, you grab what you need and you’re on your way. The coffee, drinks, everything is already laid out and ready for you to pour and take. That was an important part about the store: if you’re in a rush, the last thing you want to have to do is wait on a long line to pick up some coffee. We want to make things as easy and quick as possible.”
Grab & Go’s hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and on Sundays they open at 8 a.m. They open at 7 a.m. on Fridays, but closing hours vary depending on when Shabbat begins. The store is open Saturday nights after Shabbat ends until 1 a.m.
“We’ll be opening Saturday nights about half an hour after Shabbat ends,” Shushan continued. “That way if you’ve gone to a concert, movie, anything like that, we’ll be here for you with a cold drink, slushie, whatever you might want or need. We want Grab & Go to be a place where people can come and always feel like there’s something for them to enjoy. We’ve gone out of our way to make sure we have some great items and products that anyone can enjoy. The Icee machine is popular already and we think is going to be a favorite.”
