Kosher Express, the well known kosher Chinese take out restaurant in Fair Lawn, now has a second location in the heart of West Orange. Located in Pleasantdale Center next to the West Orange Bake Shop, the new store is in the space formerly occupied by Glatt Fusion.
Proprietor Jay Hirschhorn spoke to The Jewish Link in a telephone interview. “We’ve been in Fair Lawn since December 2019. I heard that the owner of Glatt Fusion was looking to leave, so I stepped in.”
Hirschhorn acknowledged that the past year has been difficult, and his business, like so many others, has been impacted by COVID-19. “For this whole year, no one had parties. There really wasn’t any catering.” he said. “But hopefully things are starting to turn around. I’m hoping it only goes up from here.”
According to Hirschhorn, the menu at the West Orange location will be similar to what is offered in Fair Lawn. And, like the original location, the store is takeout only, at least for now.
Hirschhorn stressed that the store is operating with all COVID precautions firmly in place—masks and social distancing are required at all times and only a limited number of patrons are permitted in the store at one time.
He added that the store will soon be accepting payment by credit card, but for now payment must be made by cash, check or Zelle. Online ordering will be available in the coming weeks as well.
Store hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and, currently, Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Friday closing hours will change for the winter.
Kosher Express is under the supervision of the Vaad Harabonim of MetroWest and there is a mashgiach on the premises at all times.
