Kosher Travelers and Elli’s Kosher Kitchen are working with Rabbi Yisachar Krakowski, director of OU Kosher—the world’s largest kosher certification agency—to receive permanent, official OU certification for Elli’s Kitchen and all her products, including a special OU Hechsher for Pesach with full-time OU supervision. Elli recently catered all kosher food, under OU Hashgacha, for the American and Israeli delegations that arrived to negotiate the full UAE-Israel peace accords. Rabbi Yehuda Sarna, the chief rabbi of the UAE, is involved as well.
Elli’s Kosher Kitchen offers a full menu of traditional Ashkenazi weekday and Shabbat foods, with an Arab-Emirati twist. This includes rugelach filled with dates and orange blossom (instead of chocolate), challah made with zaatar and olives, bourekas filled with sweet Emirati pumpkin pudding, Shabbat kugel and cholent with Emirati spices, blintzes flavored by rosewater and saffron and sweetened with Emirati date syrup, and more. Traditional Shabbat cuisine like matzah ball chicken soup, chicken, Israeli salads, apple turnovers and more is available, too.
