Mother’s Day was a day for the Cobra mothers to watch their undefeated boys soccer team take on MDS for the quarter finals. At the end of the first period the score was 0-0. However in the second period Kushner got going with a nice pop-in by Jack Salomon followed by a sweet goal scored by Jordan Lankry. In the third period, MDS had an own goal to bring the score to 3-0 Kushner. MDS then scored a goal and went into the fourth period with a score of 3-1. In the fourth period, Isaac Scherzer scored from near the halfcourt line for a final score of 4-1. This was a solid win leading to the semi-finals on Thursday at JKHA. What a great way to spend Mother’s Day!
On Thursday night the Cobras were ready to extend their streak against SAR in the yeshiva league semi-finals at JKHA. In the first period, Kushner struck first with a slick goal by Isaac Scherzer. However SAR quickly tied it up. The first quarter ended with a score of 1-1. In the second period, Kushner started off strong once again with a powerful goal by Salomon followed by a nice strike by Lankry which brought Kushner to 3. SAR scored once more in the period and the Cobras went into the half up 3-2. In the third period SAR scored to even up the game. But the Cobras would not be deterred. In the fourth period Shua Isler scored a huge cross net goal from the side to put Kushner in the lead and Salomon scored again for a final score of 5-3. This was a complete team win with major contributions from David Gampel, Max Kurlander, Asher Silverstein, Shai Merlin and of course our goalies Akiva Freedman and Aiden Bluegrind who were remarkable in goal. Next up is SSBC in the finals. Two undefeated teams will go head to head. All we can say is: Let’s go Cobras!
