The Kushner Cobras varsity baseball team closed out a phenomenal 2018 season with a 4-1 loss in the MYHSAL championship game to the Frisch Cougars on Sunday night at Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair.
After losing seven starters from last year’s championship team, the young Cobras started the season late with all the crazy weather in March and April. The Cobras ultimately played 17 games in just over a month, including the Jewish Baseball World Series in Columbus, Ohio. The team started off slow, but as these young players learned to work together, led by their amazing veteran coach, Larry Canales, they began to turn the season around.
Ultimately, the Cobras earned the #3 seed at the end of the regular season, and subsequently defeated Ramaz and upset HAFTR in the quarter and semi final rounds, respectively.
In the championship game, the Cobras fought valiantly but eventually fell to the Cougars by a 4-1 tally.
The Cobras will lose just two seniors in Jon Kirsch and Jordan Langer for the 2019 season, and will return nine starters.
