Livingston—In honor of Adar, Rabbi Eliezer Rubin, Head of School of JKHA/RKYHS, decided to insert a little humor into an otherwise looooong winter of snow days, early dismissals, and delayed openings. On Friday, February 20, he sent the following email to parents.
“Dear Parents,
In anticipation of the predicted, potential winter storm for Monday, February 23, we have made the following decisions regarding opening school:
1. West Orange will be on a two-hour delay.
2. Livingston will be on a four-hour delay.
3. East Brunswick and Highland Park students should return to school on February 25th.
4. John and our maintenance crew will pre-plow and salt our campus starting Sunday morning at 9:02 a.m.
5. In the event that we will need to adjust arrival times for Monday, it was decided that we will inform parents only after 9:04 a.m. and faculty will be informed after they have arrived to school.
6. The website will be updated to reflect the schedule of January 2nd.
7. It was agreed that my cell phone will be turned off, as I will be in Stratton, Vermont—skiing.
8. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share them with me during the month of July.
We wish you a happy Adar and a sunny Purim!
—Eliezer E. Rubin”
Most parents got the joke immediately, calling it the “Funniest. Thing. Ever.” However, with all the schedule changes due to snow this year, it took some parents multiple reads to realize that another school delay was not planned for Monday. With this past weekend’s winter storm occurring on Shabbos, parents felt confident that school would actually be able to open on time come Monday morning. Will the school get through an entire week without a weather-related schedule change? Stay tuned…
Happy Adar!
