Kushner Girls Hockey Crushes Flatbush in Home Opener

The Kushner Cobras began this season like they finished the last with an 11-1 blowout win over Flatbush on Tuesday. The Cobras dominated play in the first period, generating numerous scoring opportunities, but only capitalized on one, entering the second period with a slight 1-0 lead. The reigning MYHSAL champions settled into their game in the second, scoring six goals, and the third, scoring four more to equal an 11 goal total. The game was a true team effort as each of Kushner’s offensive lines contributed to the scoring as well as sophomore defenseman Grace Shapiro with a goal and senior defenseman Devorah Slonim with two assists. Three of Kushner’s forwards had a multiple-goal game, including senior Lauren Karger (two goals, one assist), junior Daphna Ansel (two goals), and freshman Tommi Ratzker (two goals). The strong start to the season proves that the Kushner Cobras are a force to be reckoned with as they work for a repeat of last year’s championship finish. They are set to face off against Frisch in their next game on April 16.
