Kushner JV Girls Volleyball Wins First Game of the Season

The Lady Cobras notch their first win of the season against Westchester. Key to this outcome was the superior serving performance by members of the team: Sivan, Genah and Shelli put the team in position to win with their string of service aces. In game one, the girls fell behind 15-8 by missing three serves until Sivan served eight straight aces to help the Cobras take the 16-15 lead. Genah finished off the Wildcats by closing out the game with service run which included three aces.

The second game picked up where game one left off. Sivan ran off a string of six services, which included five aces, before missing her serve into the net. Genah followed with six more serves, which included five more aces. This built enough of lead (13-4) to carry the girls to a win despite the team missing five serves.

The team struggled a little in game three, missing five serves, but managed a comeback on the string of Shelli’s four aces which brought the game even at 18. But the Wildcats managed to win the game 22-20. The fourth game started slowly for the Cobras as they fell behind 7-3 before Shelli ran off a string of four serves, followed by Cynthia’s two aces and Lyndsay’s ace to bring the game even at 12. Sivan’s two aces and Genah’s three aces closed out the game and match for the girls’ first win of the season. When the girls were not winning points on service aces, Cynthia’s passing and defense kept Westchester offense at bay, by minimizing their run of points to four in three times. Sivan took those passes and set them up for 16 spike kills by middles Genah and Lyndsay.
