In modern times, Lag BaOmer has come to symbolize the resilience and spirit of the Jewish community. With this in mind, Schechter’s theme for Maccabiah the day was “Creating Kehillah.” Through the lens of the Pixar-animated “Toy Story” characters (Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Little Bo-Peep and Mr. Potato Head), students and faculty integrated midot into each team song and cheer they created, and in all the sports and educational activities that typify a Maccabiah-type day.
