This has been a fantastic start to the year for the children at the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School of Congregation AABJ&D in West Orange. Students started the year with transition to New Year’s activities and All About Me and are now concentrating on Rosh Hashanah. Rabbi Zwickler visited all the classes so the children could hear a real shofar.
The fours class is concentrating on where a shofar comes from and comparing ram horns to other animals with horns as well. They are comparing the sound of the shofar to other types of instruments and deciphering the different sounds of wind, string and percussion instruments while listening to different pieces by famous musicians, such as Yitzchak Perlman. The twos class painted with apples. The threes class made apple cinnamon play dough. The tiny tots made pomegranate seeds in their cards with their little finger prints. The children are busy singing and preparing and can’t wait to celebrate the holidays!
