An informational program called “What You Need to Know About Elder Abuse” was held on Tuesday, July 9, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at The Lavy House, 748 E. Broad Street, Westfield, New Jersey. The program was presented by Peter Jacob, MSW, LSW, program manager for JFS’s Project CEASSE: Combatting Elder Abuse Through Services and Education.

Project CEASSE is a program developed by Jewish Family Service of Central NJ and the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ to educate professional and lay community members, and older adults themselves, about elder abuse. If and when such abuse might occur, the program provides support services and intervention. Project CEASSE is funded by the Healthcare Foundation of NJ, the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest NJ and the Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement.

Peter Jacob is a licensed social worker serving our community to raise awareness about elder abuse and to ensure older adults as well as caregivers receive the services they need. Peter has a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Kean University. Peter has served Union County addressing issues such as homelessness and mental health primarily among the older adult population.

The program was free and open to the entire community.

The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House is a joint venture between Jewish Family Service of Central NJ and Temple Emanu-El of Westfield. The program provides programming and the services of social worker Naomi Kreutzer, LCSW, each Tuesday.
