True learning requires context and Gemara is no different.
New rebbe, Rabbi Jordan Ginsberg, brings the learning off the daf with a focus not only on the content of any given sugya, but on its context as well. On a daily basis, Rabbi Ginsberg’s shiur learns about the history of the transmission of Torah through dynamic multimedia presentation.
As they learn through the sugyot, Rabbi Ginsberg introduces his talmidim to the tannaim, amoraim, rishonim and acharonim through slides and discussions about who they were and how they lived.
The shiur often goes on tours of the beit midrash, looking at different seforim and discussing the authors’ histories and identities. This helps bring the Torah, and the many people in the past who helped it develop, to a more immediate awareness for his students.
