I was very disheartened when I read the two stories that appeared on page 9, Allison Davis’ post on The Teaneck Drum and “Taking a Lesson From Dr. King: Divisive Attacks Have No Place in Government” by Mark Schwartz. (January 30, 2020)
I first read the post sent by Ms. Davis to The Teaneck Drum. Whether it is what she intended or not, her message points to “them or us.” “We showed up for them and they deserted us.” Her message is one meant to separate and divide communities. Her thought to post this biased message could have easily been eradicated by reaching out to any one of the individuals she mentioned. She owes each of the individuals an apology and a retraction of her directive concerning the casting of votes.
Mr. Schwartz wrote a very easily understood perspective of what transpired during the events that Allison Davis found so troubling. Hopefully, Ms. Davis will read the response to her post concerning the four and reach out to them to discuss her perceptions and correct her accusations. As Mr. Schwartz implied in his article, her reaction was the antithesis of Dr. King’s philosophy and teachings. Dr. King would have reached out in order to possibly prevent the divisiveness that she is encouraging. All four men would be easy to contact, should one want to.
Hopefully her next message to The Teneck Drum will correct her original post and also be printed in The Jewish Link.
