What a wonderful month of holidays it’s been. We are sorry to see it end. We can, however, take it with us, each in our own way.
Fellow Chaplain Shalom Jacobs’ songs “Harninu” and my favorite, “Mi Sheberach,” are not to be missed. He took a mission upon himself to sing for our soldiers, the Holy IDF.
“Mendel” has also joined the chaplain ranks. Our singers are on board the healing mission. Yaakov Shwekey was interviewed by the BRS rabbis on their “Behind the Bima” podcast, where he shared his efforts on behalf of the IDF and their families. Check it out on YouTube.
Thank You Hashem Nation and Rachel have put out “Clarity” for women and girls. We could all use a little clarity these days. Hot off the press also from TYH Nation: “Future Dance.”
Multitalented Reb Nissim continues to share motivational video shorts. Friends of ours just moved to Israel and made it up on stage with Nissim during his simchas bais hashoeva.
New chasidish faves: Zanvil Weinberger’s “Bnei Beischa” and Dovy Meisels and the Malchus Choir’s “Chasidish medley.” For those wanting to extend Simchas Torah into the year, “Simchas Torah Upmix” by the Early Shabbos Band is very leibidig. as is “Simchas HaTorah” (year-round) by Eli Marcus.
We loved “Halo” by Ohad Moskowitz, and were always fans of his. We were sorry to hear of Yigal Calek, legendary composer and master choir leader’s passing. His memorable music will be missed and remembered for eternity. We have no doubt that the music heavens are alive and well, and on that note, our own Joey Newcomb along with Abie Rotenberg have put out a smash hit which has folks raving. “The Neshoma Never Dies” is touching souls big time.
Out of Manchester, England, Avrumy Samet’s “Levi Yitzhak” song is welcome on the Defender of Israel’s yahrzeit and all year round. The Makor Jewish Music Hall of Fame show is coming up on November 9 at The Space at Westbury—a fundraiser and trip down memory lane in one.
Fellow radio host Sid Rosenberg of WABC broadcast live from Israel as well as spending Yom Kippur with Rabbi Shlomo Katz. He broke the fast with PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Upon his return we heard him play Shlomo Katz’s song “Everlasting Love” on-air, a proud moment.
Sir Paul McCartney was spotted in shul over the holidays in Chile. I recall my trip there with my darling Dad many moons ago. We were blessed to visit him recently in beautiful Vermont. My Dad put the music in me. Now I enjoy watching him and D.J. Al “talk music,” LOL.
The klal has suffered a lot of loss. We come together in joy and tears, and sometimes it’s both. Together we shall prevail—in Israel and in the U.S. elections. I just know it. As we all continue to grow forward, praying for Israel’s victory, the return of our hostages, safety for our people and the world, new beginnings including patriotic presidents.
Chaplain Sarah and D.J. Al wish everyone a Gezinter winter. And, as Rabbi Efrem Goldberg says: Stay happy, stay healthy, and stay Holy! Thank you Hashem/God!
Al and Sarah (Newcomb) Gordon own and operate 1640 WJPR, a unique radio station in hybrid format out of Miami. Al has been dazzling Radioland with his voice and personality for decades.
