Underlying Conditions Can Cause ADHD
I am a New Jersey licensed psychologist and a New Jersey certified school psychologist. I read
an article about children with a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD in The Jewish Link of January 21, 2016 (“The ADHD Child: In the Classroom,” by Rabbi Dr. Wallace Greene) and want to comment that at least sometimes children diagnosed with ADHD have underlying problems that were not identified or addressed. For example, visual tracking, auditory processing and thyroid gland malfunction were found to be underlying causes of the attention disorder symptoms
in some of the children referred to me with ADHD diagnoses. Appropriate treatments were much more helpful.
