Sephardic Synagogue of Fort Lee Is Warm and Welcoming

I have been a member of the Sephardic Synagogue of Fort Lee for 22 years. It has been a great experience to be part of such a diverse and caring community. We are like a big family and everyone looks out for each other. Most of our members have their immediate families in other countries, so when it’s holiday time we try to invite each other and have the true family holiday experience.

About 18 months ago, our community welcomed our new rabbi Ilan, Acoca, with his wife, Dina, and their family. I am sure it was not an easy transition for them in the beginning, but I think now they are very comfortable in our community because we all seem to have the same values about Sephardic traditions and family. They organize many events, but my favorite is going to the Women’s Shiur they give every month. We always host the Shiur in someone’s home and serve some light refreshments; I think it’s a little more intimate this way. I have attended most of the classes and I really enjoy going because it’s a nice way to get together with the ladies each month and enjoy the rabbi’s lectures. There is a new topic every month and I walk away with a little more knowledge about Judaism every time!
