The state of affairs today reminds me of a joke. A fellow is driving the wrong way down a one-way street. He is stopped by a police officer who informs him of his infraction. The fellow responds, “But officer, I was only going one way.” We seem to be going the wrong way in many aspects of society today to the point where wrong is right, bad is good, and immoral is glorified. We are definitely headed in the wrong direction. When it comes to our children, we must take action, and that is the impetus that has lit a fire under me, Lisa (Leah) Escott, to get involved in the education of our children. Never having imagined I would run for office of any kind, I’m as surprised as anyone, but now I can’t imagine anything else.
I was educated in the public school system half a century ago, and it’s almost unrecognizable now. We need to return to pure education. That’s what school is supposed to be about. We must let children be children. Girls’ sports, privacy and safety must be protected. Books that are too graphic to read at Board of Ed meetings should not be offered in school libraries. These are our children, your children, not the school’s children. Schools were never meant to come between parents and their children. Schools should only be enhancing that parent-child relationship, not sabotaging it with secret meetings on gender orientation and other topics unbeknownst to the parents. Somewhere along the line, schools have lost sight of their focus and domain, to the detriment of our children.
My husband and I have been living in Bergenfield for the last 30 years, where we raised our four children; we recently welcomed our seventh grandchild in Atlanta. I love our beautiful community and our wonderful friends and neighbors. I am forever appreciative of the shuls where we daven and celebrate, Congregations Beth Abraham and Ohr Chodosh.
I humbly ask you to vote for me, Lisa Escott, a strong conservative voice for the Bergenfield Board of Education. I close by borrowing a line, which I love, from Bill O’Reilly: “I approve this message by writing it.”
