Eighteen local teens who are participating in the Teen Adventures Travel and Volunteer Camp at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades recently traveled to Boston where they took part in a special social service project, “Cradles to Crayons,” to help financially challenged families get a head start as they prepare their children for the upcoming school year. The teens collected sneakers, children’s clothes, crib sheets and toiletries to bring with them. Once in Boston, the group donated their time assembling clothing packages. Inspired to make an even bigger difference, they pooled some of their own money and donated it to purchase new backpacks and school supplies. “I wanted to help as many kids as possible,” said Nadav Krongrad, a 12-year-old participant. “They don’t have the money to purchase what we have and take for granted. …Helping them … makes all of us feel good.”
