Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Location! Location! Location!

As parents, we approach the new school year with renewed enthusiasm and hope. For many of us, setting up our children for success includes shopping for school supplies, school shoes, and uniforms. As a teacher and real estate agent, I know that establishing a clean and organized place for doing homework can help children to succeed.

Here are some quick tips for a homework station.

Choose a location that is conducive to focus and concentration—ideally one that is free of noise and distractions.

Make sure to have supplies within easy reach. Transitioning to homework preparation is smoother when paper, pens, pencils, crayons and anything needed is easily available.

Keep the homework station clutter free in order to avoid distractions. This creates a more relaxed environment that is conducive to accomplishment,

Be consistent. Having one area designated for homework helps instill a sense of discipline and routine. If, however, there is a need to change location, consider a rolling or portable caddy with necessary supplies.

Anything that contributes to your child’s motivation and creates a positive vibe can enhance the homework station. Lighting, posters, colorful supplies and nutritious snacks can make it a fun place to be!

Warm wishes to all for a year of success and accomplishment. Shana Tova!
