The final week of December was Computer Science Education week at LPS. From Hour of Code, to UNPLUGGED science, to interesting lectures that inspired discussions about information technology, the week was full of computer-related activities.
One discussion was led by David Max, a technology expert from LinkedIn (father of Shira, first grade and Rebecca, sixth grade), who presented an Internet Security and Safety class to fifth and sixth graders.
Computer science opens more doors for students than any other discipline in today’s world. Learning even the basics will help students in virtually any career. Just students are taught how to write an essay or how electricity works, it is important for every 21st century student to have a chance to dissect an app and learn how the Internet works. LPS does not expect all of its students to become computer programmers, but does want them to learn skills that might be important to their future success. LPS is aiming for confident, independent and resourceful problem-solvers.
