Tenafly—The Lubavitch on the Palisades School hosted child behavior analyst Michelle Goodman as part of a sponsored guest speaker series for the school support group “Struggles and Strategies,” a monthly meeting of LPS parents that is open to the entire community. Past speakers have included prominent psychologists and authors, some of whom are members of the community. The support group is newly formed, having begun regular meetings only last November.
The group of approximately 30 men and women are able to delve into topics on a deep level, and ask their parenting questions to experts well known in the field. Past meetings have included discussions on general parenting struggles and question-and-answer sessions, while also including special lectures on topics such as the role of self-esteem in children. Next month, on April 30, the group will have a book review discussion on the role of digital technology in child rearing, with LPS support group leader Bena Schwartz leading a discussion of the book The Big Disconnect: Protecting Child and Family Relationships in the Digital Age by Catherine Steiner-Adair and Teresa Barker. Schwartz has a Ph.D. from Yale University in Developmental Psychology, and is a mother of five.
Local experts interested in being a speaker for the Struggles and Strategies support group are invited to contact Sonya Solomon at [email protected]. Please also email Sonya if you are interested in attending the April 30th event (there is no fee, though for security reasons an RSVP is required) or if you would like to be added to the email list for future events.
