LPS Middle School Girls Tour Jewish Museum

The fifth, sixth and seventh grade girls of Lubavitch on the Palisades School went to the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side for a special Chanukah program on December 28.

Sixth grader Eliya Eini wrote about her experience, “The trip to the Jewish Museum gave me knowledge about my Jewish ancestry. The tour guide showed us menorahs from the 18th century. All of them were different, beautiful and unique. Also they all came from unexpected places. For instance, I was surprised to see menorahs from Australia and Korea. The tour guide, Suzanne, also showed us the way they celebrated the Sabbath and holidays by showing us their Torah covers and Sabbath candles. After that, she let us make our own awesome menorahs inspired by the ones we observed. Some students made more traditional menorahs while the others made more abstract ones.”

According to fifth grader Olivia Lahm, the craft room had three tables with materials like cardboard, popsicle sticks, buttons, shaped paper, puff paint and glue. “We used these to make our special menorahs.”
