Sixth graders of Lubavitch on the Palisades School are completing their forensic science unit with Liberty Science Center. The program consisted of eight sessions: one session was virtual, five sessions were held at the Tenafly campus and three sessions were held at the Science Center. Students learned that crime scene investigations rely on scientific knowledge and experimentation.
The program began on October 13, 2015 when Hilda Estevez of Liberty Science Center taught the students about fingerprints and how to identify them. Other sessions included the hands-on study of blood types and ink types. Sheindel November, sixth grade student, wrote about the recent trip to LCS, “This week we went to Liberty Science Center. We learned about different blood types and we experimented with different types of synthetic blood. Then we took turns and went to different stations in order to figure out a crime case. The crime case involved a stolen picture. We had to collect evidence like finger and shoe prints; we studied them in order to solve the crime. That’s what a forensic scientist does!”
LPS established a wonderful partnership with LSC that has been enjoyable and educational.
