The Ma’ayanot Rapids (10-1) defeated the Kushner Cobras (9-2) to take the MYHSAL championship, winning 12-2. The game took place on May 20, on neutral ground (TABC) with large contingents of fans from both teams packing the stands. The win came as payback for Ma’ayanot, having suffered their only regular season loss to the Cobras.
Ma’ayanot senior Esther Avidan and sophomore Leeby Levine led the way with four goals each. Sophomore Noa Berkowitz had a pair of goals, and seniors Penina Krischer and Gila Segelov had one each.
The Rapids jumped out to the lead early on and never really looked back. They built a lead of 7-0 by halftime, capitalizing on excellent passing and footwork that at times overwhelmed a talented Cobra team.
In the second half, Kushner went on the offensive to score two goals by senior Danielle Shapiro and freshman Hannah Koppel. But despite solid defense and a large number of saves by senior goalie Gennah Grossman, they were unable to stop the offensive power of the Rapids, who scored five more goals over the course of the second half.
