In partnership with the Civic Spirit organization, Ma’ayanot developed a Civic Spirit Club where students were empowered to tie faith-based values to community engagement. Under the guidance of Samantha Kur, Chani Rotenberg and Civic Spirit educators, students explored issues they were passionate about, conducted research and organized a civic action plan. The projects were student-driven, student-led and inspiring. One group chose gun violence as their focus area and organized a Wear Orange Day to commemorate National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2. They plan to continue this program at Ma’ayanot and hope to expand it to other schools. Congratulations to Nesya Bayewitz, Ora Russ-Fishbane, Ilana Lemonik, Sarah Krohn and Temima Weissmann for organizing the inaugural #wearorangeday. Other dedicated members of the Civic Spirit Club include: Ayelet Poupko, Henya Besseches, Irene Lipstein, Devorah Luber, Nava Price, Ayelet Sasson, Sophie Fine and Nili Wittenberg.
