Ma’ayanot Drama Society Presents ‘Blue Stockings’

For the eighth season in a row, Black Box Studios/PAC and the Ma’ayanot Drama Society are collaborating on a spring play that will once again prove to be one of the most unique student productions in the tri-state area. Over 35 students work together for almost half of the school year to produce the show from start to finish, including casting, finding the right show choice for the group, detailed scheduling of rehearsals and production elements, creating costumes and sets and putting all technical elements into place. This year, they even planned a special, student-organized shabbaton focused on cast and crew unity.

Black Box founder and BBPAC Artistic Director Matt Okin oversees and directs the production, with a team of student directors and stage managers that grow in their positions and responsibilities from season to season. The group is completely inclusive and any student who wishes to gain experience is fit into the production, on stage or off, in way that they can contribute and grow in the most beneficial manner. This spring’s production is Jessica’s Swale’s acclaimed Off-Broadway and regional hit “Blue Stockings.”

With themes of equality, love, friendship, suffragettes, and education, this production is sure to transcend historical boundaries and invoke feelings of horror towards the prejudices against women of the 19th century. Will these pioneers of women’s education have the strength to change history?

Performances of “Blue Stockings” are at 7:30 p.m. on March 22, March 23, March 29 and March 30. Tickets are on sale soon at www.blackboxpac.com. Due to some mature content, this show is not recommended for children under 13.
