Ma’ayanot students were privileged to hear from renowned speaker, Jackie Bitton on the topic of modesty in connection to the general discussions of the Torah values of privacy and modesty, highly counter-cultural today, which are taking place in Advisory and with faculty over the last few weeks. Students were engaged by Bitton’s warmth and the relevance of her message. Bitton spoke of inner beauty, and that modesty includes efforts to keep growing and strengthening one’s inner midot. She emphasized that just like a parent’s love, Hashem’s love is unconditional, and that students should be proud of every effort they make in shemirat hamitzvot. Tzniut, according to Bitton, is one area where Halacha guides one’s focus to unique inner qualities which should be reflected by how one presents oneself to the world. Her message that an inner awareness of modesty connects and supports outer modesty resonated with Ma’ayanot students who have been learning about the Halachot of tzniut and the hashkafic values therein.
