Mrs. Stein’s forensics class went on a fascinating trip to the NJIT forensics lab. David Fisher, father of sophomore Sorah Fisher, and director of the Forensic Science Program in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science at NJIT, spoke to the students about what it entails to become a forensic scientist. He then gave the class a tour of the forensics lab, demonstrating the use of complex equipment used for techniques such as PCR, DNA analysis and gas chromatography. Earlier in the year, the students visited the Bergen County Bureau of Criminal Investigation where they met with crime scene investigators who explained how they collect evidence at crime scenes and then process them in the labs. The trips to NJIT and The Bergen County BCI gave the Ma’ayanot forensics science class real life exposure to the cutting-edge technology used to solve crimes.
