Ma’ayanot Hockey Stays Undefeated With Victory Over Rival Frisch

The Ma’ayanot Rapids (5-0) kept their perfect season alive with a hard-fought 4-2 win over their cross-county foes, the Frisch Cougars (2-4). The Rapids’ home win makes them the only undefeated team in the entire MYHSAL hockey league.

After a scoreless first period, Ma’ayanot took the lead in the second with a goal from senior Eden Schechter, assisted by senior Esther Avidan. Frisch tied the game on a slap shot up the middle from senior Temira Koenig. But Ma’ayanot senior co-captain Lily Fuchs put the Rapids up 2-1 at the end of the period with a wraparound shot into the goal.

In the third period, Schechter helped her squad go up 3-1 on a long wrist shot, once more assisted by linemate Avidan (their fourth goal-assist combo of this nature in the past two games). Fuchs helped Ma’ayanot again by assisting her linemate senior Chaya Ross who scored, putting her team up 4-1.

But the Cougars did not give up. Koenig scored her second goal halfway through the third period, making it 4-2. But despite enormous pressure and a dozen solid shots in the final minutes on junior goalie Tamar Pasternak, Frisch could not come up with any more goals.

After Pesach break, Frisch will face Central and Heschel. Ma’ayanot will play Heschel, Kushner and HAFTR.
