Ma’ayanot Juniors Plan ‘March for Our Lives’ in Teaneck This Sunday

Responding to the nationwide gun control marches being held this Saturday, and emphasizing the difficulty of participating due to Shabbat coupled with the importance of taking action, a group of yeshiva high school students has decided to hold their own march, scheduled for this Sunday, March 25.

Organizers Adira Barber and Danit Forman, Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School juniors, said, “As students, we feel deeply and personally affected by the Parkland shooting. After that shooting, the students there decided to organize a movement called March for Our Lives to fight for stricter gun control. Unfortunately, all of the planned marches are taking place on Shabbos, March 24, so we wouldn’t have been able to attend any of them. This is an issue we are very passionate about, and we were very disappointed that we couldn’t participate. So we decided to organize our own march on the day after the rest of the marches, March 25, so that yeshiva high school students, as well as anyone else who would like to, will be able to participate. This is an issue that finally needs to be dealt with, and we want to be a part of that change. Across the country, members of our generation have been stepping up and making their voices heard, which inspired us to take charge and fight for what we believe in. Join us as we fight for the safety of our students.”

The march will begin at the Richard Rodda Community Center in Teaneck at noon, and end at the Teaneck Municipal Building at 2 p.m. The event will conclude with a guest speaker.
