On December 7 the JV Rapids traveled to Kushner. Noa Berkowitz and Sophie Lerer each had six points. Freshman Tova Kaplan came in and scored six points from fast breaks and drives. Sophomore Esther Avidan had five points including a three pointer. Freshmen Dani Borger, Allie Orlinsky and Talia Adler offered aggressive play on offense and defense. Sophomore Allie Brandwein had two three pointers in the last quarter and Sol Emunah Richter fought hard on the boards.
On Saturday night the JV Rapids hosted Bruriah’s JV team. Sophomore forward Richter put up the first shot of the night down low and continued with five points from the line. Captains Berkowitz and Halpert each had four points, freshmen point guards Meisels and Lerer came out on attack with ten points from Lerer and eight from Meisels. Sophomore Ally Brandwein had over half a dozen defensive rebounds in the fourth quarter, helping the Rapids gain possession. Help from the whole team solidified the win. The final score was 36-18.
In the second half of the double header with Kushner, the varsity squads played a close game, but Ma’ayanot maintained the lead throughout. Senior Adina Falk scored six points for the Rapids. Juniors Rebecca Malech (seven points,one three pointer), Leora Adler (12 points) and Elisheva Mirwis (ten points) helped increase the Rapids lead over Kushner. Aggressive steals and excellent rebounding came from seniors Tamar Segal, Danielle Pasternak and Racheli Zomberg. Guards Alissa Felder and Michal Horn helped control the offensive play and protect the top of the key on defense. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed 42-32 Rapids.
Back in action on Monday night at Central, the Rapids owned a nail biter 38-37. Senior captain, Michal Horn, knocked down three three pointers throughout the game. Aggressive defense from senior captains Tamar Segal and point guard Alyssa Felder and junior Rebecca Malech shut down drives and defended outside shots. Forwards Zomberg, with eight points, and Alexander, 10, had many rebounds and steals. The last few minutes were the most intense, and Adina Falk and Elisheva Mirwis came in to help. With a minute left, Falk stole the ball in the back court, giving the Rapids a chance to win. Down by one, and with the momentum up, Alexander put up the winning layup.
