The Ma’ayanot Rapids JV basketball team hosted Flatbush Monday night. The JV team came out with a slower start, but hit high percentages of free throws in the first quarter. Sophomore Sigal Ostrin hit three of four from the line and finished with 11 points. Freshman Baila Gopin hit two for two from the line and finished with 11 points as well. The first quarter was 12-5. The second quarter was where the Rapids hit their streak with a 20-4 run and a 32-9 final in the first half. Captain Shifra Prager (six points) and sophomore Ayelet Ostrin (14 points) lead the way with steals from defensive pressure. Freshmen Tali Zelkowitz (six points), Atara Friedman (two points), and sophomores Yakira Mermelstein (two points) and Sara Mirwis (four points) all contributed to help the Rapids. Captain Ayelet Eizikowitz had some amazing rebounding on both ends (two points) which helped Ma’ayanot take a commanding lead, ending in a Rapids’ win with a final score of 58-15. The JV team is currently 7-1.
