Ma’ayanot Rapids Basketball Is Off to a Great Start

Ma’ayanot’s JV Rapids team had an amazing first game. Sophomore captains Avigayil Kaminetsky, Noa Berkowitz and Avigayil Halpert all put up points for their young team. Kaminetsky had eight points, Berkowitz had four points including two clutch foul shots. Halpert had four points. Esther Avidan had eight points from the floor. Sophomore point guard Nealy Saks had several steals and fast breaks helping her team stay aggressive on defense and leading on offense. Freshmen Michal Meisels and Tova Kaplan used their speed and intensity to drop in layups off of big steals. 12 points for Kaplan and 11 for Meisels, including many assists, as Ma’ayanot topped Kushner 52-21 to open the season.

The second game of the season was another strong effort from the JV Rapids. The Rapids almost doubled up North Shore by a final score of 59- 30. Saks got the game started right, laying one in during the opening seconds of the game. The freshmen came up big in this game: Sophie Lerer scored six points and made two foul shots, Dani Borger had three points and guard Allie Orlinsky made a fast jump shot from the wing. Forwards Kaminetsky, Adler, Richter and Berkowitz dominated the boards with 11 from Berkowitz including a 3-pointer and 13 points for Kaminetsky. Richter chipped in with six points including two foul shots.

The Varsity Rapids are also playing great, they opened the season with a convincing 42-15 victory over the Kushner Lady Cobras. The Rapids took an early lead. Senior Tamar Segal scored four points and senior Alissa Felder added five points including a 3-pointer at the buzzer before the half. During the second half of the game, junior Sari Alexander added six points for the Rapids along with junior Elisheva Mirwis who had four points. Juniors Michal Horn and Rachelli Zomberg brought in their aggressive style of play as well, Horn scoring a 3-pointer and Zomberg scoring four points.
