Tammie Rapps’ senior English class enjoyed their trip to the Broadway musical, “Parade” starring Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond. The show depicted the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish New Yorker living in the South who was accused of murdering of a 13 year old factory worker and was subsequently lynched. The plot takes place in Atlanta at a very dark moment in American history. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was formed in response to this event. The students enjoyed exploring the way that musical theater reflects on issues related to the formation of America today. The play coincides with the important unit they are learning in class discussing race, religion and ethnicity in America.
