On Thursday, October 6, Ma’ayanot students enjoyed an after-school mishmar program that focused on chesed opportunities. Students first chose one of three learning sessions. Daniel Rothner, director of Areyvut, presented a class on “Joining Together to Get Involved.” Two Ma’ayanot alumnae college fellows presented chabura-style classes as well. Tova Sklar (Class of ’15) gave a session entitled “If I Had a Million Dollars” and Naima Hirsch (Class of ‘15) taught a class on “Why Should I Care? A Crash Course in Jewish Social Justice.” After the learning sessions, students chose a hands-on chesed project: Beading sukkah decorations for Care One in Teaneck and recycling T-shirts to make and decorate bags for Leket, Israel’s food rescue organization.
