In commemoration of the shloshim of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, zt”l, the Ma’ayanot Tanach department has incorporated his teachings into our learning this month. Shifra Schapiro and Aliza Adler analyzed shiurim from the archives of Rabbi Sack’s Covenant and Conversations series on the parsha in connection to their Chumash courses. Ora Schreier had her students choose select texts from Rabbi Sack’s book “Letters to the Next Generation 2: Reflections on Jewish Life.” This collection of letters that Rabbi Sacks wrote explores topics relevant to university students seeking guidance integrating Jewish values and contemporary dilemmas. Schreier’s senior students each chose specific essays that resonated with them, digging into how Torah values are there to guide us even in our contemporary arena. Schreier says “the responses that I received were truly a remarkable tribute to the impact of Rabbi Sack’s Torah on our generation.” May the life lessons that Rabbi Sacks instilled in the Jewish community live on in our learning and Torah commitments.
