“Ma Nishma?” is the modern Hebrew equivalent of “What’s new?” or “What’s up?” At Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey, the phrase “ma nishma” has taken on a whole new meaning. It is the title of the new quarterly Hebrew language newspaper that the students began publishing this year.
The newspaper includes articles about activities around the school, interviews with faculty members, Israeli current events, RYNJ sports teams, puzzles, contests, and photos. Editors-in-chief Shira Glicksman, Avigail Schiff, Eitan Pfeiffer and Eitan Warburg have encouraged many students around the school to participate by writing articles, photographing school-wide activities, and thinking of ideas and topics to enhance Ma Nishma. The first issue, which was distributed last week, included a cover article about the Alisa M. Flatow wing dedication, interviews with Mrs. Jenny Levy, the new English principal at RYNJ, as well as Rabbi Ephraim Claire, educational technologist. Student poetry and essays were featured, as was an article written about Molly Glicksman, winner of the “Name our Newspaper” contest, who came up with the name Ma Nishma for the paper.
The writers and editors are once again busy brainstorming with faculty advisors Morah Cindy Zucker and Rabbi Dov Hochbaum. They are working on the next issue which will highlight, among many items, the newest building expansion, the RYNJ successful Torah Bowl team, the standing for all of RYNJ’s sports teams, and a large photo spread of students and their families enjoying winter vacation.
