Twenty four Ma’ayanot students, from freshman to seniors, attended the ADL’s Never Is Now conference, the largest gathering in the world addressing antisemitism. The day began with a panel of student leaders on three college campuses who have bravely and proudly stood up for Israel against lies and hate. They conveyed messages of hope, that while the anti Israel crowd is loud and gets a lot of publicity, the neutral crowd is the vast majority, and they are open to having discussions, getting the facts, and they realize which side is peaceful and which one isn’t. The students had the opportunity to hear from Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the ADL, and then had presentations about how to address antisemitism in our own interactions. A highlight was meeting students from schools across the tristate area, both Jewish and non Jewish, and sharing experiences. The students engaged in meaningful discussions to create hope and peace for everyone and brainstormed about actions teens can take to benefit themselves and the community.
