The 11th-graders at Ma’ayanot concluded their advanced science courses with a series of thrilling educational trips. AP biology students had the privilege of visiting Dr. Zalman Levine’s Reproductive Endocrinology lab, while the AP chemistry students toured the ExxonMobil Research Facility, led by Dr. Doron Levine. The physics students embarked on a dynamic Physics Day at the American Dream Mall.
The AP chemistry students were guided by Dr. Doron Levine, who is the parent of sophomores Ariella and Esther Levine and chief chemist at ExxonMobil. The tour included a fascinating visit to the ExxonMobil labs, where the students toured the Exxon Mobile organic chemistry and engineering labs and interacted with a panel of female scientists. This session provided insights into careers in engineering, chemistry, and toxicology, offering the students a glimpse into professional opportunities in the field. This immersive experience offered a rare glimpse into the professional world of chemistry, sparking their curiosity and ambition.
Physics Day at the American Dream Mall was an exhilarating and educational experience for the Ma’ayanot students. They heard from an engineer at the Dream Wheel before experiencing it firsthand, followed by a series of rides at the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park. They applied their knowledge of kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, conservation of energy and momentum, periodic motion and optics to analyze the mechanics behind each ride. This hands-on approach to learning not only reinforced their understanding of physics principles, but also made the experience both enjoyable and memorable.
These exhilarating trips provided the Ma’ayanot juniors with a unique opportunity to witness how their classroom knowledge comes to life in real-world applications, capping off their year of advanced science education with inspiration and excitement.
