The audition and rehearsal process for “Matilda The Musical” starts off for the 2023-24 season of the all-inclusive Ma’ayanot YHS Drama Society, now heading into its 13th season in partnership with Black Box Studios, a leading entity for collaborative performing arts education since 2007.

Matt Okin will produce in collaboration with student director Sophie Fine, student producer Eliora Roth and student director/producer apprentices Kaila Novoseller and Adina Goldstein. Shani Machlis once again leads as production stage manager.

“The Ma’ayanot Dramatic Society has become a home and safe space for me,” explained Sophie Fine of Highland Park. “It allows me and other students to express our creativity and spend time with people from other grades. The society provides an outlet for Ma’ayanot students to step outside of their comfort zones and delve into creative pieces while also helping them connect and relate to characters they never thought they would play.” Junior Eliora Roth shared, “Drama Society is an opportunity for me to showcase my skills, whether it be onstage, backstage or producing!”

The goal of The Ma’ayanot Drama Society and Black Box Studios is to continually create a holistic approach to the dramatic arts throughout the school while maximizing use of the new Student Center stage and high-end production equipment.
